The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration became a reality in October of NOAA was tasked with the responsibility to predict changes in the oceans, atmosphere and living marine resources. The data gathered by NOAA would be shared by other government agencies, the research community, private industry and the general public. The following update provides the status of NOAA’s fleet of ships and aircraft, which play a critical role in the collection of oceanographic, atmospheric, hydrographic, and fisheries data. NOAA’s current fleet of 16 ships – the largest civilian research and survey fleet in the world – and nine aircraft, are operated.

Aging Aircraft Airborne Data Monitoring Systems The Federal Aviation Administration has re-established a flight loads data collection program for civil aircraft.
The initial phase of the research consisted of the acquisition and publication of a substantial quantity of data, which had been previously collected yet not published.
Data collected. We desired to automate data transfer to speed diagnostics during working-group meetings. We thus developed the For2R interface to write an R data object (of type list) to a plain-text file.

The topographic laser data was collected at altitudes of about m and a groundspeed of kts. Septem using an Applanix Digital Sensor System (DSS) onboard the NOAA King Air aircraft (N68RF). The imagery was collected at a mid-tide stage and at a nominal altitude of 4, feet with a ground sample distance (GSD) of m.
For both acquisitions, base stations were established at the Atlantic City airport (KACY). Aerial survey operations were conducted with the NOAA King Air (N68RF) aircraft during the period of August 6, through Septem All imagery was flown at a nominal altitude of 10, feet resulting in an approximate ground sample distance (GSD) of meters.
The overall acquisition project included flight lines. These data sets were collected and processed by NOAA's National Geodetic Survey () as part of its GRAV-D effort to modernize the U.S. vertical datum. The purpose of these data is to provide accurate gravity data for geoid modeling for the U.S.
and its territories. The field operations consisted of the collection of static and kinematic GPS data and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) data, and the acquisition of digital aerial imagery. Aerial survey operations were conducted on Aug with the NOAA King Air aircraft (N68RF).
